Article Abstract:

By the end of 2000, Shanghai Gao Qiao BASF Dispersions Co Ltd is to increase the output capacity of polystyrene butadiene dispersions in Pudong, Shanghai, to 110,000 tons per year. For that purpose, a new polymerisation facility is to be built. A capacity increase from 40,000 tons per year to 50,000 tons per year was already completed. Polystyrene butadiene dispersions are used for coating paper and carpet. Shanghai Gao Qiao BASF Dispersions Co Ltd. is a 50:50 joint venture of BASF and the Sinopec subsidiary Shanghai Gao Qiao Petrochemicals Corp.

In mid-2000 Swiss Kreuzlingen-based Lawson Mardon Neher AG is to bring on stream a new SFr 13mn facility for the coating of plastic films with SiOx ceramics. Lawson Mardon Neher, which is part of the Algroup, supplies Ceramis barrier materials to the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries worldwide. The ceramic laminate that can be applied on various plastics such as PET, OPP, OPA and HDPE is said to yield good protection against gases, aromas and steam and feature high mechanical stability.
