Bandgap oscillation in polyphenanthrenes

Article Abstract:

The potential use of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as electrode materials for technological inventions inspired scientific analysis of their electronic structures. The correlation between the electronic properties and edge structures of PAHs and carbon-based ladder polymers were examined. The fragment molecular orbital analyses of the acene-edge and phenanthrene-edge structures were performed. A correlation between energy gap and edge structures was demonstrated. However, only the polyphenanthrene samples absorbed light which made them potential materials for solar cells.

Metastable crystalline lamella of cetylpyridinium chloride in the Krafft transition

Article Abstract:

The metastable crystalline lamella is found in the Krafft transition of aqueous cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) solutions. Temperature-dependent profiles of small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for the CPC solution exhibited the metastable lamella structure with a lattice spacing of [d.sub.L] = 3.19nm at temperatures below 12 degree C and the stable lamella structure with a lattice spacing of [d.sub.L] = 2.85 nm at temperatures between 12 and 19 degree C.
