CANADA: DSM BIOLOGICS EXPANDS CAPACITY

Article Abstract:

Dutch Venlo-based DSM Biologics is to install a new cGMP fermentation system in Canada, where it has a production plant in Montreal. The system that serves the multiplication of mammal cells will comprise three bioreactors with capacities of 50 litres, 320 litres and 2,000 litres. The project that includes the expansion of product cleaning facilities is to be completed at the end of January 2001. The subsidiary of Dutch Heelen-based DSM is a producer of vaccines, genetic therapy products, antibodies and proteins.

GERMANY: 3DP KNOWHOW FOR PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY

Article Abstract:

3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals Inc. (3DP) of Exton, Pennsylvania, has set up a subsidiary in Berlin to offer its technology for R&D in the European pharmaceutical, agrochemicals and biotechnology industries. The new subsidiary is called 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals GmbH. The Discover-Works technology covers high-throughput screening, combinatory chemistry and structurally-supported pharmaceutical design. 3DP's own research projects include agents against cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

MACEDONIA: LEK TO BUILD PHARMACEUTICAL FACTORY

The Slovenian pharmaceutical producer Lek is to invest DM 6mn initially in setting up a production plant in Macedonia. Further investments of more than DM 10mn are planned in the longer term.
