CO-induced segregation of hydrogen into the subsurface of Ni(110)

Article Abstract:

The scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) are combined to show changes to the Ni(110) surface structure upon formation of the (beta3) state of hydrogen which is mediated by CO. The results indicate that CO induces the segregation of a fraction of the hydrogen from the Ni-H overlayer into the subsurface and the remainder evolves into the gas phase.

H2 production in the radiolysis of water on UO2 and other oxides

Article Abstract:

The production of H2 in the gamma ray and 5 MeV helium ion radiolysis of water adsorbed on 0.4 and 1 (mu)m particles of UO2 are studied. It is observed that the radiation chemical yields of H2 increase substantially with decreasing number of adsorbed water layers when the yield is determined with respect to the energy deposited directly by gamma rays in the water.

Raman investigation of surface OH-species in porous silica

Article Abstract:

A comparison of the surface vibrational properties of sol-gel synthesized porous silica monoliths with different porosity is analyzed. Raman spectroscopy studies of the fundamental O-H stretching range (3000-3800 cm to the power -1) shows a dependence of the surface reactivity on pore dimensions.
