Catalytic ignition of H2/O2 mixtures on platinum: ignition temperatures and postignition transients

Article Abstract:

The transient and postignition steady-state behavior of catalyst temperature during ignition of H2/O2 mixtures with platinum as the catalyst has been studied. The experimental setup used a long polycrystalline platinum wire mounted in a quartz tube flow reactor. The reaction dynamics were examined through the kinetic model developed by Hellsing and associates. The numerical computations show good agreement with experimental results. The observed postignition temperatures are replicated in the mathematical calculations with only the geometry correction factor as the requirement.

Dependence of the critical temperature on molecular parameters

Article Abstract:

An expression is obtained for the critical temperature of pure fluids in terms of the parameters of scaled particle theory (SPT) and the correlation between the experimental and calculated values of a range of different pure fluids is investigated. A very good correlation is found between the experimental and calculated values for most of the pure fluids.

Determination of adsorption and desorption parameters from ignition temperature meausrements in catalytic combustion systems

Article Abstract:

The main aim of this study is to demonstrate a new method of determining parameters for heterogeneous ignition from ignition temperature measurements. It is found that after using this method, the activation energy of desorption and ratio of sticking coefficients of reactants can be determined from the temperature data available.
