Catalyzed radical polymerization of styrene vapor on nanoparticle surface and the incorporation of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles within polystyrene polymers

Article Abstract:

A novel approach to polymerize olefin vapors on the surfaces of metallic and semiconductor nanoparticles is presented. The presented approach provides structural and mechanistic information on the early stages of catalyzed gas-phase polymerization, which could be used to correlate the gas-phase structural properties with the bulk properties and the performance of the polymer nanocomposites.

Direct observation of interfacial charge recombination to the excited-triplet state in all-trans-retinoic acid sensitized TiO2 nanoparticles by femtosecond time-resolved difference absorption spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The excited-state dynamics of the free all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) in hexanol, the electron injection of ATRA bound to TiO2 nanoparticle, and the subsequent charge recombination are studied by using femtosecond time-resolved visible difference absorption spectroscopy. Three excited singlet manifolds that are, S3, S2, and S1 are seen for the ATRA molecule after 400 nm photoexcitation.

Collective dynamics of lysozyme in water: Terahertz absorption spectroscopy and combination with theory

Article Abstract:

A broadband terahertz spectrometer suitable for strongly attenuating protein solutions is developed in order to measure the low-frequency vibrational modes of proteins in biologically relevant water environment. A low-frequency cutoff in terahertz dynamics between 0.2 and 0.3 THz is observed, but no evidence is given for a predicted normal mode at approximately 0.09 THz for the protein.
