Tuning the optical properties of a water-soluble cationic poly(p-phenylenevinylene): surfactant complexation with a conjugated polyelectrolyte

Article Abstract:

The emission and absorbance properties of the novel water-soluble cationic conjugated polymer poly{2,5-bis[3-(N,N,N-triethylammonium bromide)-1-oxapropyl]-1,4-phenylenevinylene} (P2) are examined in the presence of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS). The results can be used for developing new stable poly(p-phenylenevinylene)-based photovoltaic and electroluminescent materials with tunable optical properties.

On the nature and accessibility of the Bronsted-base sites in activated hydrotalcite catalysts

Article Abstract:

Two different methods are applied to activate Mg-Al hydrotalcites to obtain Bronsted-base catalysts for liquid-phase condensation reactions. The study has shown that not the strength but the accessibility of the basic sites largely determines the catalytic performance of activated hydrotalcites and the relevant steric effects are assessed with a probe molecule similar in size to the reactant molecule (acetone).

Concentration-dependent dual behavior of hydrophilic ionic liquid in changing properties of aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate

Article Abstract:

The changes in the properties of aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), an anionic surfactant, upon addition of a hydrophilic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate [bmim][B[F.sub.4]] are analyzed. The studies have shown the concentration-dependent dual role of the ionic liquid [bmim][B[F.sub.4]] in changing the physicochemical properties of aqueous SDS.
