Characterization of the temporal response profile of carbon-black-polymer composite detectors to volatile organic vapors

Article Abstract:

The relative differential resistance responses of carbon black-poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (PEVA) composite vapor detectors are evaluated in response to short rise time square pulses of acetone, n-hexane, methanol, 2-propanol, or toluene, in a background of synthetic air. The results reveal that the response times of the relative differential resistance of PEVA-carbon black detectors to analyte exposures are proportional to the square of the film thickness, l, in the range 510<=l<=5700 nm.

Promotion of formaldehyde production from adsorbed methoxy by oxidation of Mo(110) with NO(sub 2)

Article Abstract:

The reaction of methoxy in the presence of NO(sub 2) is studied on a thin-film oxide of Mo(110) for its relevance to the alkane-assisted reduction of NO(sub x). The results indicate that surface oxidation rather than intermolecular complexation is the most likely mechanism by which NO(sub 2) promotes the evolution of oxygenates.

Effect of changes in TiO2 dispersion on its measured photocatalytic activity

Article Abstract:

The effects of deliberate changes in the dispersion of titanium dioxide (TiO2) slurries on their measured photocatalytic activity are examined. The milling-times of 30 minutes resulted in an 80 percent decrease in the rate of acetone formation.
