Cleaning and hydrophilization of atomic force microscopy silicon probes

Article Abstract:

The effect of surface cleaning on the hydrophilicity of commercial atomic force microscopy (AFM) silicon probes and on the adhesive force measurements in water and air is investigated. The presence of water soluble contaminants at the tip-sample contact has lowered the capillary pressure in the water bridge formed by capillary condensation at the AFM tip-sample contact, which has consequently lowered the adhesive force.

Thermal reactions of methanethiol and ethanethiol on Si(100)

Article Abstract:

Adsorption and thermal decomposition of methanethiol (CH3SH) and ethanethiol (C2H5SH) on a Si(100) surface by means of temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with synchrotron radiation are investigated. Adsorption and decomposition of thiols occur on the dangling bonds of a dimer without breaking the Si - Si dimer bond, resulting in preservation of a 2 * 1 LEED pattern.

Catalytic transformation of methane over In-loaded ZSM-5 zeolite in the presence of ethene

Article Abstract:

Methane was shown to react with ethene over In-loaded ZSM-5 to higher hydrocarbons such as propene and toluene at around at around 673 K. It was observed that toluene is formed by two reaction paths, which includes the reaction of propene with butenes, and the reaction of benzene with methane.
