Interdigitation of an intercalated surfactant bilayer

Article Abstract:

The cationic surfactant cetyltrimethlammonium has ion-exchange intercalated from an aqueous solution of the surfactant by a two -step process into the galleries of layered cadmium thiophosphate are presented. The result reveals that the planarity of the methylene chains is the key factor for the absence or occurrence of interdigation of the intercalcated surfactant bilayer.

Article Abstract:

Self-assembly techniques are used to fabricate artificial thin films for a number of applications such as in optoelectronic devices. Controlling length scale at the nanometer level and interfacial properties, the layer-by-layer approach can be used to construct materials with unique and special properties for applications in electronics and photonics.
