A prelude to surface chemical reaction: imaging the induction period of sulfur interaction with a strained Cu layer

Article Abstract:

Questions relating to the early stages of sulfur interaction with CU are addressed, using scanning tunneling microcopy to picture the behavior of the adsorbed sulfur and copper layers.

DeNO(sub x) reactions on MgO(100), Zn(sub x)Mg(sub 1-x)O(100), and Cr2O3(0001): Correlation between electronic and chemical properties of mixed-metal oxides

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of NO, NO2, and N2O on MgO(100), Zn(sub 0.06)Mg(sub 0.94)O(100), Cr(sub 0.06)Mg(sub 0.94)O(100), and Cr2O3(0001) is studied using high-resolution photoemission and first-principles density-functional calculations. The results reveal a clear correlation between the electronic properties and reactivity of the oxide surfaces.

Multistep reaction processes in epoxide formation from 1-chloro-2-methyl-2-propanol on Ag(110) revealed by TPXPS and TPD experiments

Article Abstract:

The synchrotron-based temperature-programmed X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (TPXPS) in combination with temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) is used to track C-C1 scission in the reaction of 1-chloro-2-methyl-2-propanol (Cl-tert-BuOH) on oxygen-containing Ag(110) surfaces. The results show that the oxygen pre-coverage strongly influences the cleavage of the C-Cl bond.
