Detection and identification of corrosion products of sodium aluminoborosilicate glasses by (super 23)Na MQMAS and (super 1)H-->(super 23)Na CPMAS NMR

Article Abstract:

The monitoring of the chemical and structural changes resulting from atmospheric exposure of a series of alkali aluminoborosilicate glasses with compositions RNa2O: 1B2O3: 1SiO2:0. 25AI2O3 (where R= 0.5-2.5) is applied by (super 23)Na multiple-quantum (MQ) MAS NMR. The resonances arise from sodium cations no longer participating in the glass network is indicated.

Local order of amorphous zeolite precursors from (super 29) Si {(super 1) H} CPMAS and (super 27) Al and (super 23) Na MQMAS NMR and evidence for the nature of medium-range order from neutron diffraction

Article Abstract:

Amorphous aluminum silicates, isolated from hydrothermal reactions used to form crystalline zeolite are prepared. The broadness of the T--T nonbonded correlation for the amorphous solid, compared with that seen for crystalline zeolite, indicates that there are no well-defined secondary building units present before the formation of zeolite crystals.

Characterization of ultrathin films of gamma- Al2O3 and the chemistry of 1, 3- butadiene on NiAl (001) and gamma-Al2O3

Article Abstract:

High resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS) was used to study ultrathin films of gamma- Al2O3 grown on NiAl (001). On the NiAl (001) surface, 1, 3- butadiene is pi- bonded to the surface until the substrate is heated to 300K, above which the butadiene converts to a sigma bonded structure.
