Direct visualization of the dynamic hydrolysis process of an L-DPPC monolayer catalyzed by phospholipase D at the air/water interface

Article Abstract:

The combined monolayer technique is used with BAM to investigate the hydrolytic reaction of l-DPPC monolayer catalyzed by PLD. It is concluded that the phase separation of the hydrolytic product and the substrates in one monolayer play a key role in initially activating the hydrolysis process and then inhibiting the hydrolytic reaction.

Acid-base equilibria at the air/water interface was measured using second harmonic generation. At this interface, the acidity of long chain amine was enhanced three times.
