Dynamics of surface catalyzed reactions; the roles of surface defects, surface diffusion, and hot electrons

Article Abstract:

Sum frequency generation (SFG), scanning tunneling microscopy and catalytic nanodiodes operating under the high-pressure conditions were employed to study the mechanism that controls bond breaking at transition metal surfaces. The observation of hot electron flow through catalytic nanodiodes presents new insights into the role of electronic excitation leading to new energy conversion processes using heterogeneous metal catalysis.

In situ sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy observation of a reactive surface intermediate during high-pressure benzene hydrogenation

Article Abstract:

Surface intermediates are identified at various temperatures during high-pressure catalytic reactions of benzene on Pt(111) by using sum frequency generation (SFG) surface vibrational spectroscopy and kinetic measurements using gas chromatography. The results have shown that chemisorbed dienyl benzene is a reactive surface intermediate during benzene hydrogenation.

Model Ziegler-Natta polymerization catalysts fabricated by reactions of Mg metal and TiCl4: film structure, composition, and deposition kinetics

Article Abstract:

Research into chemical vapour deposition of model Ziegler-Natta polymerization catalysts using Mg metal and TiCl4 is presented. Chemical reactions of Mg and TiCl4 were found to produce thin films of titanium chloride and magnesium chloride on the Au substrate.
