Effect of short-range interactions on polyelectrolyte adsorption at charged surfaces

Article Abstract:

The effect of short-range interactions on polyelectrolyte adsorption at oppositely and similarly charged surfaces was studied. It was observed that the adsorption of polyelectrolytes at similarly charged surfaces could occur only within the range of surface charge densities where the short-range interactions dominate the electrostatic repulsion between adsorbed chains and the charged surface.

Tailoring the polyelectrolyte coating of metal nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

The examination of the driving and opposing forces behind the process of uniformly coated gold nannoparticle and the tailored surface properties by polyelectrolyte multilayer adsorption are presented. The polyelectrolyte coating of nanoparticle was found to provide colloids with tailored surface characteristics and will open new avenues for their applications.

Light-responsive polyelectrolyte/gold nanoparticle microcapsules

Article Abstract:

The preparation and characterization of light-responsive delivery vehicles, microcapsules composed of multiple polyelectrolyte layers and light-absorbing gold nanoparticles is reported. The capsules will find application in a range of areas where controlled delivery is desirable.
