Effects of counterions and co-ions on the surfactant binding process in the charged polymer network

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the effects of the co-ions and counterions on the kinetics of surfactant uptake in the charged network. The rate of the surfactant uptake into the gel was observed to be distinctly dependent on the mobilities of the co-ions of the surfactant and counterions of the charged network. The surfactant flux was explained in terms of a mutual diffusion process of ions through the charged network which is dependent on the harmonic mean of the mobilities of the mobile ions.

Effects of charge on protein diffusion in hydrogels

Article Abstract:

The effect of charge on protein diffusion in hydro gels, mutual diffusion of a globular protein, myoglobin, at various pH and ionic strength levels in two kinds of polysaccharide gels, neutral agarose gel and anionic carrageenan gel, is studied by an electronic speckle pattern interferometry method. The experimental data in agarose gel is found to be in agreement with the combined model proposed by Clague and Philips for the diffusion of spheres in hydrogels.

Effect of aspect ratio on protein diffusion in hydrogels

Article Abstract:

The effect of the aspect ratio of protein on the diffusion in gels, the diffusion of a rodlike protein, tropomyosin, in two kinds of polysaccharide gels, agarose and carrageenan by the electronic speckle pattern interferometry method is studied and the comparison made with that of globular protein, myoglobin. A reptationlike behavior in the diffusion of rodlike protein in a hydrogel is observed.
