Electron tunneling at the semiconductor-insulator-electrolyte interface. Photocurrent studies of the n-InP-alkanethiol-ferrocyanide system

Article Abstract:

Electronic tunneling through self-assembled monolayer films on n-InP semiconductor electrodes has been studied. The research delves on the dependence of the photocurrent on control parameters of the photoelectrochemical cell. The photocurrent is determined by the electron-transfer rate constant, the concentration of the redox couple and the concentration of photogenerated holes at the electrode surface. Results indicate that the photocurrent is a linear function at low concentrations of an equimolar mixture of ferricyanide and ferrocyanide. The reaction becomes zero order in the redox concentration.

Thermodynamic analysis of phase coexistence and stability in textured amphiphilic monolayers at the air/water interface

Article Abstract:

The equilibrium behavior of surfactant monolayers in the liquid-expanded/liquid-condensed coexistence region is analyzed. To understand the trends examined in the phase equilibria in an amphiphilic monolayer, a formulation of the monolayer free energy is necessary at a mesoscopic level particularly, the calculation of the exact nature of the free energy of mixing, Gmix, which involves a 2D equation of state for the film. The results are discussed.

Monolayers and 3D films of cholesteryl derivatives at the air-water interface

Article Abstract:

Cholestrol and its derivatives have been studied at the air-water (A-W) interface. The assembly of molecules in the different phases of the A-W interface for the cholesteryl derivatives with respect to their packaging in the bulk and the onset of smetic liquid - crystalline phases are discussed.
