Elevation of melting temperature for confined palmitic acid inside cylindrical nanopores

Article Abstract:

The phase behavior of the amphiphilic long-chain palmitic acid (PA) that is confined inside the cylindrical nanopores in the matrix of titanate nanotubes is studied by using the high-resolution nuclear resonance technique. The analysis of the elevation of the temperature shows that PA gets physically trapped in the nanopore on annealing at the bulk temperature and remains solid like substantially above the bulk temperature.

Diphenyloligothiophene-based dichromophoric macrocycles and their ability to form donor/acceptor complexes

Article Abstract:

A series of four rigid electron-rich macrocycles are synthesized and characterized by optical spectroscopy and [1.sup.H] NMR analysis. They form donor/acceptor complexes with tri- or tetranitro-9-fluorenone and three crystalline complexes with a 1:1 donor/acceptor ratio are isolated with relatively weak [1.sup.H] NMR shifts of characteristic signals in dissolved donor/acceptor mixtures.

Polyamine-induced bundling of F-actin

Article Abstract:

Measurements of the onset of bundling as a function of polyamine concentration are presented to better understand the mechanism of actin filament (F-actin) bundling by polyamines. It is found that the threshold concentration of polyamine needed to bundle actin is independent of both actin concentration and [Mg.sup.2+] concentration.
