The year 2003 has posed tough challenges for all the energy consuming industries, especially the basic chemicals industry, which requires oil and natural gas as raw materials. A review on the quarter results of a few chemical companies manifest that the increasing demand for energy keeps their prices at a high level.

Higher energy costs pressure margins

The rise in the prices of the energy resources has left all the energy consuming industries, especially the chemical industry, face the toughest year in 2003. The balance sheets of several companies are analyzed to estimate the intensity of the impact of the energy price hike.
