Excited-state energy transfer and ground-state hole/electron hopping in p-phenylene-linked porphyrin dimers

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the ground and excited-state characteristics of a series of p-phenylene-linked porphyrin dimers by different static and time-resolved spectroscopic methods. Two types of dimers substituted at the meso positions were characterized using a one-flask condensation of an aldehyde, terephthaldicarboxaldehyde and pyrrole. Experimental results indicated that photoinduced energy transfer can be realized at much faster rates by using a p-phenylene linker.

Energy-transfer modeling for the rational design of multiporphyrin light-harvesting arrays

Article Abstract:

A method for modeling the kinetics of energy migration in weakly coupled multiporphyrin light-harvesting arrays is presented. Empirical data from a small set of prototypical molecules were used to test the feasibility of the modeling approach. Results showed that the new method allows for an easy computation of the quantum efficiency of the energy migration process and the antenna effect in a wide range of arrays.
