Excited-state properties and transitions of fluorescent 8-vinyl adenosine in DNA

Article Abstract:

The time-dependent density functional theory and the configuration interaction single method, the electronic properties, and transitions of 8-vinyl-adenosine (8VA) in its free form and stacked with one or two flanking bases is investigated to characterize the excited state properties of the fluorescent base, 8VA. The observations suggest that strong quenching of 8VA when inserted in DNA depends on the nature and the orientation of its neighbors and the estimated excited-state energy gaps, absorbance peak position, and oscillator strength ratify the empirically determined ones.

Anion formation of 4'-(dimethylamino)-3-hydroxyflavone in phosphatidylglycerol vesicles induced by HEPES buffer: A steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence investigation

Article Abstract:

3-hydroxyflavones are characterized by an excited-state proton transfer reaction between two tautomeric excited states, which results in two emission bands well separated on the wavelength scale. A new band strongly shifted to the red in both absorption and excitation spectra for 4'-(dimethylamino)-3-hydroxyflavone (probe F) in the presence of anionic phosphatidylglycerol vesicles is evidenced.

Fluorescent probe based on intramolecular proton transfer for fast ratiometric measurement of cellular transmembrane potential

Article Abstract:

A new two-color fluorescent probe for measuring the transmembrane potential across cell membranes is developed and characterized. The fast two-band ratiometric response as well as the relatively high sensitivity of the new probe is the vital features that make it useful for rapid detection of the transmembrane potential changes in cell suspensions and single cells.
