Furfuryl alcohol polymerization in H-Y confined spaces: reaction mechanism and structure of carbocationic intermediates

Article Abstract:

The acid-catalyzed polymerization and resinification of furfuryl alcohol adsorbed in the framework of a protonic Y zeolite is analyzed by using various spectroscopic methods. The studies have shown that the length of the oligomers and of the catonic species has increased with increasing temperature and amorphous carbon is formed on H-Y zeolite.

Uniform gold nanorod arrays from polyethylenimine-coated alumina templates

Article Abstract:

A description is presented on fabrication of 2D arrays of Au nanorods using nanoporous anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) templates coated with polyethylenimine (PEI), with very fine control over nanorod height. Uniform growth rate is determined by the adsorbed PEI matrix, which controls the growth kinetics of the grains comprising the nanorods.

Formation of high-stress phase and extrusion of polyethylene due to nanoconfinements during Ziegler-Natta polymerization inside nanochannels

Article Abstract:

Polyethylene nanofibers are synthesized by heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta polymerization inside nanochannels of robust anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes. The polymerization catalysts are chemisorbed at the inner wall of the nanochannels and monomers are provided through diffusion from the channel entrance.
