GERMANY: NEW LOGISTICS SYSTEM BY DUTTENHOFER

Article Abstract:

The leading European producer of sheet steel packaging for the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and mineral oil industries, German Hasloch-based Gottlieb Duttenhofer GmbH & Co has developed a new logistics system. The system was designed especially to meet the demands of the large customer BASF. At the "shuttle station" of Duttenhofer, drums of 120 l and 216.5 l are fully automatically palletised and loaded onto lorries according to the customers' wishes. Altogether 312 barrels can be transported simultaneously in the low-platform lorry trailers, which the customer can also use as temporary warehouses.

Article Abstract:

Plastic film producer Kalle Pentaplast GmbH of Montabaur will produce hard films on the basis of cycloolefine copolymers (COC). The films, which initially will be used in pharmaceutical packaging, are marked by optical clearness, temperature stability and special barrier characteristics. COC is produced by Frankfurt-based Ticona GmbH, which, at its site in Oberhausen, will increase the annual COC capacity to 30,000 tons. With a total of 1,400 employees, Kalle Pentaplast has 5 sites and generates a turnover of more than DM 700mn. *

GERMANY: TEST FOR LIVER CANCER

Article Abstract:

At the end of 1999 the Berlin-based company BioGenes Gesellschaft fur Biopolymere GmbH is to start production of a new test for the detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The immuno assay is based on antibodies. Production will take place by means of venture capital. The test is to be marketed worldwide. The pharmaceutical industry services company BioGenes, which was established 1992 and employs 11 staff, expects a turnover of DM 1.4mn in 1999. It is hoping to develop medical diagnostics into a second core business.
