GERMANY: SKW TROSTBERG BOOSTS BIOTECH R&D

Article Abstract:

By December 2000 the German Munich-based chemicals producer SKW Trostberg AG is to set up a biotechnology research centre in Weihenstephan, where the Munich polytechnic is located. The DM 15mn research centre (DM 12.8mn is to be spent on buildings alone) will include a 1,800-sq.m laboratory. It will carry out research into biotechnology for the food, cosmetics and technological applications and deal with fermentation and more modern technologies.

GERMANY: PARTNER SOUGHT FOR PLASTIC INVENTION

Article Abstract:

A working group at the University of Dusseldorf is looking for an industrial partner for the further development of a plastics innovation. The working group produced plastic films and test pieces with added styrene sugar and vinyl sugar and discovered that their surface conductivity is superior to that of conventional plastics and that they have anti-static properties. Also the dyeing properties of the plastic are better.
