GERMANY: PHARMACEUTICAL FIRMS TEAM UP

Article Abstract:

One of Germany's 10 biggest contract producers of pharmaceuticals was created in the merger of KappaKapselverpack GmbH and Dr Wider GmbH & Co of Leonberg, Pharmakapsel GmbH & Co KG of Murr and PharmActiuv GmbH of Feldkirchen. The new company called C.P.M. Contraet Pharma GmbH & Co KG will have 180 staff and an annual turnover of DM 60mn. The factories in Murr and Feldkirchen will specialise in solid and semi-solid products such as cremes and gels. Production in Leonberg will be closed. A new packaging plant for tablets, dragees and capsules will be set up in Bruckmuhl near Feldkirchen. Altogether C.P.M. is to make investments of DM 12mn. Beside contract production, C.P.M. will engage in the development of new products. This is to be developed into a second core business of the company.

GERMANY/US: SCHWARZ PHARMA, NEORX DROP PROJECT

Article Abstract:

Schwarz Pharma of Monheim and NeoRx Corp have ended their cooperation in the development of a product that should have prevented restenosis after balloon dilatation. There was no proof of the efficiency of the agent, and there were concerns about its safety. Schwarz Pharma gave up another restenosis project earlier in 1998.
