Germany: Chemetall bonding agents to Rohm and Haas

Article Abstract:

Rohm and Haas of Philadelphia, US, took over the metal-rubber bonding agent business (Megum) of German Frankfurt-based Chemetall GmbH with effect from 30 September 2001. The deal includes susbidiaries in Italy and Brazil. The Megum arm of Chemetall, which serves mainly the automotive industry, generated a double-digit million euro turnover in financial year 2000/01. The operations will be integrated into Rohm and Haas' adhesives and sealants arm. The US company thus strengthens its number 2 position in this market worldwide.

Ardex GmbH of Witten and Lugato Chemie of Hamburg have agreed upon cooperation in purchasing, development, production technology and administration. Ardex is a producer of tile-laying materials and professional fillers, while Lugato produces tile adhesives, sealants and joint and other fillers. The cooperation is hoped to improve efficiency and strengthen the two companies' market position.

A new company called ND Dispersions LLC has been set up as a joint venture of Neville Chemical Comp. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Les Derives Resiniques & Terpentiniques (DRT) of France. The new firm will offer tackifiers for the adhesives market mainly in North America.
