Heterogeneous association in methanol-carbon tetrachloride mixtures

Article Abstract:

A lattice model is modified for the calculation of the equilibrium distribution of molecular clusters in methanol-carbon tetrachloride mixtures in order to account for an entropy component associated to the binding of C[Cl.sub.4] with the nondonating end of methanol clusters. This entropy contribution significantly affects the H-bonding energy estimates based on the use of the model for the analysis of both the static dielectric response and the Raman O-H stretching spectra of these mixtures.

Photochemistry catalyzed by copolymer-templated mesoporous Si[O.sub.2]: Decomposition of methanol and formic acid

Article Abstract:

The photochemical reactions of methanol and formic acid on L64 copolymer-templated mesoporous Si[O.sub.2] are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results have indicated that nonporous Si[O.sub.2] shows much lower activity toward photooxidation of these surface species and the porous Si[O.sub.2] surface has stronger Lewis acid sites that interact with the carbonyl group of adsorbed HCOOH and induce a larger red-shift of the carbonyl infrared absorption.

A mean field analysis of the O-H stretching Raman spectra in methanol/carbon tetrachloride mixtures

Article Abstract:

An analysis of O-H stretching region of the Raman spectra obtained from methanol/carbon tetrachloride mixtures of different compositions is presented. The various components of the spectra associated with methanol molecules with different H-binding states are quantitatively related with the alcohol cluster distribution derived by means of a simple lattice model.
