Identification of processes that occur after reduction and dissolution of C60 adhered to gold, glassy carbon, and platinum electrodes placed in acetonitrile (electrolyte) solution

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the formation of soluble C(sub 60)(super n-) (n= 3 - 5) species from the 3 - 5 electron reduction of microcrystalline C60 in CH3CN (0.10 mol L-1 Bu4NClO4). The microcrystalline C60 is attached to gold, platinum or glassy carbon electrodes.

Electrochemical, EPR, and magnetic studies on microcrystals of the [C60(subset)(p-benzyl-calix[5]arene)2].8toluene and its one-electron-reduced encapsulation complex

Article Abstract:

The electrochemical behavior of microcrystals of the C60(subset)L2 complex adhered to electrode surfaces that are placed in acetontrile media strongly depends on the nature of the electrolyte cations used. The interactions between C60 and calix[5]arenes are sufficiently strong that free reduced C60 anions are not produced during the course of reduction, as is the case when p-tert-butyl-calix[8]arene-C60 complex is reduced.

Electrochemical and structural studies on microcrystals of the (C60)(sub x)(CTV) inclusion complexes (x = 1, 1.5; CTV = cyclotriveratrylene)

Article Abstract:

The electrochemical reduction of microcrystals of the (C60)x-(CTV) (x=1, 1.5) complexes adhered to electrodes placed in CH3CN (0.10 mol L(super -1) Bu4NClO4) leads to initial formation of (C60(super -))x(CTV) . A two-dimensional close packed array of fullerenes with a third of these devoid of CTV is exhibited by the X-ray diffraction data of the improved crystal structure determination of (C60)(CTV)(sub 0.5).
