In situ scanning tunneling microscopy study of the anodic oxidation of Cu(111) in 0.1 M NaOH

Article Abstract:

The anodic oxidation of Cu(111) in 0.1 M NaOH are described in situ by electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements. The cathodic reduction of anodic oxides rebuilds the original extended an flat terraces of the substarte for oxides of monolayer thickness but produces a faceted Cu surface when a thicker oxide film is reduced.

Can configuration entropy losses be predicted from the binding affinities of hydrogen-bonded complexes with varying numbers of single bonds?

Article Abstract:

The binding affinities of a series of six alpha,omega-dicarboxylates are calculated using a predominant states method and an implicit solvent model based upon finite difference solutions of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation. The calculations are able to reproduce the observed increase in binding free energy as the number of single bonds increases.

The formation of neutral copper clusters from experimental binding energies and reactivity descriptors

Article Abstract:

The formation of neutral copper clusters from dimer to nonamer is studied and rationalized using the experimental data of binding energies and electronic properties. An analytic expression for the binding energy as a function of the cluster size is proposed and used to predict the growth pattern of copper clusters.
