Increasing the conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized TiO2 photoelectrochemical cells by coupling to photonic crystals

Article Abstract:

An investigation on the mechanism of enhancing the light harvesting efficiency of dye-sensitized TiO2 solar cells by coupling TiO2 inverse opals or disordered scattering layers to conventional nanocrystalline TiO2 films is presented. It is concluded that the bilayer architecture, rather than enhanced light harvesting within the inverse opal structures, is responsible for the bulk of the gain in incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE).

Oriented crystal growth model explains the formation of titania nanotubes

Article Abstract:

Evidence against the rollup formation model suggesting that titania nanotubes are formed by oriental crystal growth is presented. A novel formation mechanism is suggested which oriented nanotube crystal growth from nanoloop seeds and could also explain the experimental findings better than the present ones.

Nanoarchitecture of semiconductor titania nanosheets revealed by polarization-dependent total reflection fluorescence X-ray absorption fine structure

Article Abstract:

Using C-ray absorption fine structure analysis the nanoarchitecture of unilamellar titania nanosheets was studied. The results revealed the elongation of some interatomic distances, particularly those having a component along the nanosheet normal.
