Infrared studies of small azobenzene peptides: unexpectedly slow reactions on the time range of minutes

Article Abstract:

Infrared absorption experiments on light-triggered azobenzene peptides are performed below and above the freezing point of the solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The results have shown that at low temperatures the peptide, together with traces of water present in the sample, has formed a shell in the vicinity of the chromophore that facilitates internal motion even in the rigid cage of frozen DMSO.

On the electronic structure of neutral and ionic azobenzenes and their possible role as surface mounted molecular switches

Article Abstract:

The density functional theory (DFT) calculations for azobenzene and substituted derivatives for ground and excited states and the corresponding anions and cations are presented. The calculations are done for the isolated species and the results are discussed in light of the latest experiments aiming at the switching of surface mounted azobenzenes by scanning tunneling microscopes.

Electronic conductivity of polypyrrole-dodecyl benzene sulfonate complexes

Article Abstract:

The electronic conductivity of the electroactive polymer polypyrrole-dodecyl benzene sulfonate (PPy-DBS) is characterized as function of the redox level. The polymer is synthesized with different isomers of the dopant anions such as the common mixed DBS tenside and three well-defined synthetic dodecyl isomers.
