Conformation of the acyl chains in diacylphospholipid gels by IR spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A new study focuses on the conformational disorder of the acyl chains in the highly ordered gel phase of a diacylphosphatidylcholine bilayer. IR spectroscopy is used to establish the conformation of the CH2-CH2 bonds.

Phase separation of a metastable three-component n-paraffin solid solution

Article Abstract:

The phase separation of a three-component assembly of equimolar amounts of n-C28H58, n-C32H66 and n-C36H74 has been studied. Its crystal structure reveals a pseudo n-C33H68 layer in the the space group A2(sub 1)am. It forms a superlattice after being exposed at room temperature for six days. Its crystal structure is a series of solid solution lamellar layers. Another superlattice develops after 16 months with a spacing twice as large as the first one. Its crystal structure is a sequence of nearly pure n-alkane chain layers.
