Intramolecular quenching of excited singlet states in a series of fluorescamine-derivatized nitroxides

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the mechanism(s) of excited singlet state quenching by stable nitroxyl radicals in a series of fluorescamine-derivatized nitroxides using steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence and absorption calculations. The rate constants for intramolecular quenching obtained from fluorescence lifetime calculations were very high and showed little dependence on solvent polarity. Results indicate that rapid singlet state quenching in the series arise from enhanced internal conversion.

Solvent effects on the low-lying excited states of a model of retinal

Article Abstract:

The low lying excited states of a solution in alcohol of a five-double-bond model of the rhodopsin protein chromophore, the protonated 11-cis-retianl Schiff base (PSB11) are studied theoretically. The solvent shift values show a marked dependence on the use of relaxed geometries in solution and on the nature of the states involved in the excitation process and the dynamic correlation has a strong effect on the order of the excited states.

Sonoluminescence of Na atom from NaCl solutions doped with ethanol

Article Abstract:

Sonoluminescence spectra from argon-saturated NaCl solution are measured and the effects of the addition of a small amount of ethanol on the line width and intensity are examined. It is shown that sodium atoms are generated by the dissociation of salts and have undergone electronic excitation by OH and H radicals.
