Intensity dependence of the back reaction and transport of electrons in dye-sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cells

Article Abstract:

The electron diffusion length of efficient dye-sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 cells is only weakly dependent on light intensity. The intensity dependence of the electron lifetime is consistent with a second-order mechanism for the back reaction.

Investigation of the kinetics of the back reaction of electrons with tri-iodide in dye-sensitized nanocrystalline photovoltaic cells

Article Abstract:

A novel technique has been developed to study the kinetics of the back reaction of electrons with I(sub-3)(sup-) in dye-sensitized nanocrystalline cells. The results show that the rate of back reaction of electrons with I(sub-3)(sup-) is second order in total electron concentration.

Frequency-resolved optical detection of photoinjected electrons in dye-sensitized nanocrystalline photovoltaic cells

Article Abstract:

Electron accumulation is detected optically and related to the dynamic photovoltage and photocurrent responses. The measurement of the periodic component of the electron absorbance in dye-sensitized cells by an intensity-modulated laser has revealed that the majority of electrons are trapped at deep levels where they make no contribution to the measured photocurrent. The reactions with I(sub 3)- are very slow so that their lifetime is a measure of the rate constant for the back reaction via surface states.
