Ion-exchange controls the kinetics of deswelling of polyelectrolyte microgels in solutions of oppositely charged surfactant

Article Abstract:

The kinetics of deswelling of sodium polyacrylate microgels in aqueous solutions of dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide is investigated by means of micropipet-assisted light microscopy. It is concluded that the deswelling rates of the studied gels are strongly influenced by the mass transport of surfactant between gel and solution, but only to a minor extent by the transport through surface phase.

Inclusion complexes between [beta]-cyclodextrin and a gemini surfactant in aqueous solution: An NMR study

Article Abstract:

The effects of the complexation with [beta]-cyclodextrin (CD) in the micellization of the gemini surfactant are studied by using different NMR experiments. The experimental evidences have shown that the second included CD induces a movement to a deeper position of the first CD in the gemini hydrophobic moiety, indicating a cooperative effect and an interaction between both CDs.

Adsorption of 12-s-12 gemini surfactants at the silica-aqueous solution interface

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of gemini surfactants of the form alanediyl-alpha,omega-bis(dodecyldimethylammonium bromide) to a silica substrate is investigated using optical reflectometry and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The soft-contact AFM imaging reveals that flattened ellipsoidal aggregates are present on the surface at the shortest spacer lengths.
