Nippon Paint Co Ltd has developed a facade coating that serves as thermal insulation as well. Holographic ceramic pearls in a fluor resin reflect 80% of the infrared radiation of the sun. The coating also serves as protection against soiling.

The sales of paints and varnishes in Australia are forecast to fall until mid-2001 and then grow at an annual rate of 3-4% in the following three years. Import share is estimated to stabilise at 8%.
