Kiloelectronvolt particle-induced emission and fragmentation of polystyrene molecules absorbed on silver: Insights from molecular dynamics

Article Abstract:

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of 500 and 5 keV argon bombardment of adsorbed polystyrene (PS) tetramers on silver were undertaken.

High yield events of molecular emission induced by kiloelectronvolt particle bombardment

Article Abstract:

The sub-kiloelectronvolt and kiloelectronvolt Ar atom-induced sputtering of polystyrene tetramers adsorbed on Ag{111} is modeled using classical molecular dynamics in an effort to improve the understanding of large molecule emission in organic secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). It is observed that molecular dynamics indicate that the massive ejection of substrate atoms, clusters, and molecules can be induced by kiloelectronvolt particle bombardment of organic overlayers on metals.

Understanding gold-thiolate cluster emission from self-assembled monolayers upon kiloelectronvolt ion bombardment

Article Abstract:

A study on the physical processes underlying the emission of gold-thiolate clusters from octanethiols/Au self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) under ion bombardment is conducted. It was found that [M.sub.x][Au.sub.y] clusters eject predominantly in high-sputtering-yield events, through a late process and their emission stats from the overheated liquidlike region created in the gold crystal as a result of the high energy density deposited by the collision cascade.
