Location of spectroscopic probes in self-aggregating assemblies. II. The location of pyrene and other probes in sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles

Article Abstract:

The location of pyrene in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles is determined as a function of the aggregation number, N, by considering that spin probes 5- and 16-doxyl steric acid methyl esters are effective quenchers of pyrene fluorescence. Pyrene is chosen for the fluorophore as it dominates the studies of self-assembled aggregates and the specification of the location of a given probe is considered definitive only if it is consistent with all techniques.

Aggregation number-based degrees of counterion dissociation in sodium n-alkyl sulfate micelles

Article Abstract:

An extension of the S12S study to the homologous series sodium n-alkyl sulfate micelles (SNcS) in each case varying N by changing both the surfactant and salt concentrations are reported. The results are compared with the Evans, Mitchell, Ninham and Hayter theory as originally proposed by Hayter and under other plausible assumptions.
