Loops in proteins can be modeled as worm-like chains

Article Abstract:

The distribution of the loop length at three given end-end distances following the worm-like chain (WLC) model and the predicted entropic cost for constraining a loop with various lengths at a given distance are compared with the experimental results. The loops of only few residues long were found accurately modeled as WLCs, which makes it very convenient to analyze other thermodynamic and kinetic data on loop formation.

Irreversible work of separation and heat-driven separation

Article Abstract:

The novel results obtained, for heat-driven separation processes, include the estimate of the minimal heat consumption as a function of kinetic factors and the thermodynamic limit on the productivity of a heat-driven separation. In addition, there is a qualitative as well as quantitative difference between the reversible and irreversible estimates.

Phase stability relations in invariant systems

Article Abstract:

A quantitative and unique partition of the stability relations in an invariant system into contributions coming from invariant reactions is presented. The findings provide a simple algorithm for the construction of various types of thermodynamically consistent stability diagrams.
