Luminescence spectroscopy and near-infrared to visible upconversion of nanocrystalline GD3Ga5O12:Er(super 3+)

Article Abstract:

The near-infrared to visible upconversion properties of nanocrystalline Gd3Ga5O12:Er(super 3+) were studied following excitation of the (super 4)I(sub 9/2) excited state with 800 nm radiation. Direct excitation of the (super 4)F(sub 7/2)-(super 4)I(sub 15/2) transition of the erbium ion with 288 nm, green, red, and NIR emission was observed in nanocrystalline gadolinium gallium garnet doped with 1 and 5% Er(super 3+).

A spectroscopic analysis of blue and ultraviolet upcoverted emissions from Gd3Ga5O12:Tm(super 3+), Yb(super 3+) nanocrystals

Article Abstract:

The spectroscopic behavior of gadolinium gallium garnet (Gd3Ga5O12, GGG) nanocrystals codoped with 1% each of Tm(super 3+) and Yb(super 3+) prepared via a solution combustion synthesis procedure was investigated. Power dependence studies showed a deviation from expected values for the number of photons involved in the upconversion thus indicating a saturation of the upconversion process.

Effect of Yb(super 3+) codoping on the upconversion emission in nanocrystalline Y2O3:Er(super 3+)

Article Abstract:

The stokes emission of nanocrystalline and bulk Y2O3:Er(super 3+), Yb(super 3+) following 488 nm were reported. The peaks attributed to Yb(super 3+) were much less intense in nanocrystalline material, indicating that the energy transfer process occurs less readily in this material because of the inherent high phonon energies from the CO2 and H2O on their surface.
