SPAIN: LURGI WINS ASTURIANA DE ZINC CONTRACT

Article Abstract:

In Spain, Asturiana de Zinc SA has placed a contract with Lurgi Metallurgie GmbH and Lurgi Espanola SA for the turn-key construction of facilities for zinc blende roasting, gas purification and the production of sulphuric acid. The project in San Juan de Nieva that is to be carried out within 20 months involves investments of EUR 51mn. Production capacity for zinc blende concentrate will rise by 900 tpd to 440,000 tpy.

MALAYSIA: LINDE WINS OPTIMAL OLEFINS CONTRACT

Article Abstract:

Optimal Olefins (Malaysia) Sdn Bdh of Kuala Lumpur has placed a contract worth more than US$ 300mn with Linde of Hollriegelskreuth for the construction of a ethylene plant on a turn-key basis. The plant in Kerteh will have an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes of ethylene and 85,000 tonnes of propylene. Start-up is scheduled for mid-2001. Samsung Engineering Corp of Soeul, Korea, is Linde's subcontractor for detail engineering, procurement and construction.

GERMANY: COC PLANT FOR TICONA

Article Abstract:

Ticona GmbH of Frankfurt has placed a contract with Aventis Research & Technologies GmbH & Co KG of Frankfurt for the construction of a 30,000-tpy cyclo-olefin copolymer (COC) plant by mid-2000. It will be the first commercial facility for the polymer. The investment is worth DM 90mn.
