Measuring the distance dependence of the local electromagnetic field from silver nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

A simple approach for measuring the extension of the local electromagnetic (EM) field from the surface of a silver nanoparticle by gradually changing the local dielectric environment is presented. The distance dependence of the local EM field associated with 84 plusmn 5nm silver particles is characterized by monitoring spectral shifts in the plasmon resonance due to changes in local dielectric environment, which was controlled by coating the particles with silica layers of various thickness.

Weak charge transfer between an acceptor molecule and metal surfaces enabling organic/metal energy level tuning

Article Abstract:

A study provides evidence for charge transfer (CT) between the electron acceptor molecule octafluoroanthraquinone (FAQ) and the metal surfaces Ag(111) and polycrystalline Au by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. Due to the metal work function charge induced by the FAQ-metal CT, the hole injection barrier of sexithienyl (6T) on FAQ-precovered metals could be reduced by up to 0.60 eV compared to that of 6T on pristine metal surfaces.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering at the silver electrode/ionic liquid (BMIPF6) interface

Article Abstract:

The dependence of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering intensity of the room temperature ionic liquid derived from 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosfate (BMIPF6) adsorbed on a silver electrode is investigated. Results reveal that [BMI.sup.+] adsorbs on the silver electrode for potentials more negative than -0.4 V versus a Pt quasireference electrode (PQRE).
