Mechanistic determination using arrays of variable-sized channel microband electrodes: the oxidation of ascorbic acid in aqueous solution

Article Abstract:

Two-dimensional voltammetry and rotating disk electrode experiments were conducted to investigate the mechanism and kinetics of the oxidation of L-ascorbic acid (AH2) in aqueous solutions. Arrays of gold channel microband electrodes served as the experimental samples. A kinetic control of the limiting current was observed and was inferred from the decrease of the ratio I lim(experiment)/I lim(theory) with the mass transport. The agreement between the rate constants derived at pH 2.1 and 6.7 suggests a similar rate-determining chemical kinetics at both pH values.

Hydrodynamics and mass transport in wall-tube and microjet electrodes: an experimental evaluation of current theory

Article Abstract:

The application of steady-state and fast-scan linear sweep voltammetry to a high-speed wall-tube electrode (HWTE) is given in different solvents to study the response of the HWTE over a wide range of Reynolds' numbers (Re). It is deduced that in order to use the WTE for either kinetic or analytical purposes with any degree of confidence, it is essential to confirm the nature of the hydrodynamics for the particular cell design and solvent system being investigated by ensuring that both steady-state and transient (cyclic) voltammetry agree with theory.

Experimental and theoretical study of the surface-controlled dissolution of cylindrical particles: Application to solubilization of potassium hydrogen carbonate in hot dimethylformamide

Article Abstract:

A mathematical model is presented for the surface-controlled dissolution of cylindrical solid particles and it is used to interpret experimental data of the dissolution of potassium bicarbonate in dimethylformamide at elevated temperatures. The comparison between cylindrical and spherical dissolution theory indicates the importance of considering the particle shapes for realistic modeling of surface-controlled dissolution kinetics.
