Mycogen buys Cargill seed

Article Abstract:

Mycogen Seeds has completed the acquisition of Cargill Hybrid Seeds from Cargill Inc. The purchase makes Mycogen Seeds the third-largest producer in the US corn seed market. Mycogen also obtains a larger and more efficient ability to deliver top quality seeds and biotechnology to the market. The deal will not have an impact on seed product sales, service or distribution from Carrgill Hybrid Seeds and Mycogen Seeds during the 2000- 01 sales season.

Novartis, Zeneca to sell key products

Article Abstract:

Zeneca Agrochemicals and Novartis Agribusiness has decided to sell specific parts of their agricultural chemical products. Novartis will sell its Flint fungicide business while Zeneca intends to divest its AstraZeneca line of herbicides. The move is aimed at gaining the approval of both European and US regulators for the creation of Syngenta AG, a new unit that will be formed from the merger of the two firms' seeds and crop protection businesses.

Unocal focuses on oil, Agrium bullish on ag

Article Abstract:

Unocal Corp has agreed to sell Prodicia LLC and Alaska Nitrogen Products LLC to Agrium Inc for $325 million. The company decided to divest its agricultural products businesses to focus on its energy business. The completion of the acquisition deal, which is expected to commence on 2nd qtr 2000, will make Agrium the second largest producer of nitrogen with the capacity to approximately 3.4 milliontons of nitrogen per year.
