New insights on the behavior of PRODAN in homogenous media and in large unilamellar vesicles

Article Abstract:

The behavior of 6-propionyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene (PRODAN) was studied in homogeneous media and in large unilamellar vesicles (LUVs) of the phospholipid 1,2-di-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (DOPC) using different techniques. The results show that, in homogeneous media, the PRODAN absorption band is sensitive to the polarity-polarizability [pi*] and the hydrogen bond donor ability [alpha] parameters of the environment.

Stability of super short single-walled carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate the stability of super short single-walled carbon nanotubes (ss-SWNTs) on the basis of binding energy, standard heats of formation and strain energy. It is found that single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with only one benzene ring in the axial directions, referred to as supershort (ss) SWNTs can be thermodynamically stable.

Aggregates of naphthalene chromophores in poly(vinylalcohol)-graft-poly(vinylnaphthalene) pseudomicelles

Article Abstract:

The synthesis and spectroscopic studies of a novel amphiphilic grafted copolymer, poly(vinylalcohol)-graft-poly(vinylnaphthalene) is presented. The unusual photophysical properties of its aqueous solutions were observed which were attributed to the aggregation of the naphthalene chromophores in the bulk of polymer pseudomicelles.
