Non-destructive and high recovery-yield purification of single-walled carbon nanotubes by chemical functionalization

Article Abstract:

Raw single walled carbon nanotubes produced by arc discharge were first treated with K2S2O8 in dilute H2SO4 solution to generate functional groups such as carboxyl, hydroxyl and carbonyl on different carbon components. Then functionalization with octadecylamine reaction between an amine group and a carboxyl group with the help of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, the advantage of this procedure is the high-yield and nondestructive recovery of the target material.

New method of purification of carbon nanotubes based on hydrogen treatment

Article Abstract:

A new and an effective method, that involves acid washing followed by hydrogen treatment in the 700-1000 degrees C range, has been developed for the purification of single-walled and multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods are used to check the high quality of the nanotubes that are obtained after purification.

Large-scale synthesis of long double-walled carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

Long double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) could be synthesized in a production rate of about 0.5g per hour by an improved catalytic chemical vapor deposition method using xylene solution as carbon feedstock. The argon flowing rate affects the growth of DWNTs sensitively.
