Nonionic urea surfactants: Influence of hydrocarbon chain length and positional isomerism on the thermotropic and lyotropic phase behavior

Article Abstract:

The impact of urea-based surfactant molecular geometry, specifically headgroup positional isomerism, on the solubility, melting point and lyotropic phase behavior of 1- and 5-decyl urea, and 1-, 2-,4-, and 6-dodecyl urea are investigated. The surfactant-water mixtures of the urea-based surfactants have displayed three phases, such as a crystalline solid, a very dilute aqueous solution of the alkyl urea and an isotropic liquid.

Phase behavior and percolation studies on microemulsion system water/SDS + Myrj45/cyclohexane in the presence of various alcohols as cosurfactants

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to test the phase behavior of a water/mixed surfactant/n-propanol/cyclohexane system at various temperatures of 30, 40, and 50 degree Celsius. The result reveals that at higher temperatures, the optimum salinity of water/mixed system was higher, and confirms the absence of temperature-induced percolation in the above system.

Effect of urea addition on micellization and the related phenomena

Article Abstract:

The effect of urea addition to the phenomenon of micellization is dependent upon the urea concentration as low and high in the surfactant solution. The usage of urea is also used in the protein denaturation, but it can be renature only at low concentrations.
