O(sub 2) reduction on graphite and nitrogen-doped graphite: Experiment and theory

Article Abstract:

An experimental and theoretical study of electroreduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide on graphite and nitrogen-doped graphite was conducted. The quantum calculations on cluster models of nitrided and non-nitrited groups show that carbon radical sites, formed adjacent on substitutional nitrogen in graphite are active for O(sub 2) electroreduction to H(sub 2)O(sub 2) through and adsorbed OOH medium.

Reactions of biological with selenourea: Formation of redox active nanoselnium

Article Abstract:

Reactions of biological agents such as hydroxyl radicals (OH), singlet oxygen (O2), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and peroxynitrite (ONOO(sup-)) with selenourea are studied. The studies demonstrate that selenourea undergoes oxidation with both one-electron and two-electrons oxidants to produce elemental aelenium, which on stabilization to nanometer size, exhibits size-dependent redox activity.

Selective oxidation of semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes by hydrogen peroxide

Article Abstract:

Selective oxidation of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) by H2O2 was conducted at varying heating times. This process was monitored by UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy resulting in a major increase in the relative absorption intensity that indicated a higher than 80% concentration of metallic SWCNTs in the final product.
