Oxygen reduction reaction catalysts prepared from acetonitrile pyrolysis over alumina-supported metal particles

Article Abstract:

A study prepared noble-metal-free active catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in an acidic environment from the pyrolysis of acetonitrile at 900 degrees Celsius over alumina and metal-doped alumina. All the samples had higher activity for the ORR than would be expected for unmodified carbon, and the high activity of the pure alumina-derived sample demonstrated that metal is not required for oxygen activation in acidic electrolytes using nitrogen-containing carbon.

Hydrogen bonding and vibrational energy relaxation in water- acetonitrile mixtures

Article Abstract:

A study of the effect of hydrogen bonding on vibrational energy relaxation of the OH - stretching mode in pure water and in water- acetronitrile mixtures are presented. A study of the effect of hydrogen bonding on Vibrational energy relaxation (VER) from the OH-stretching mode of HDO molecules in the liquid phase is presented.

Ultrafast energy transfer in water-AOT reverse micelles

Article Abstract:

A spectroscopic study of the vibrational dynamics of water in a geometrically confined environment is presented. The studies used reverse micelles of the ternary microemulsion with diameters from 1-10 nm as model system for nanoscopic water droplets surrounded by soft-matter boundary.
