Oxide film formation and oxygen adsorption on copper in aqueous media as probed by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted relating to research on the nature and occurrence of copper surface oxidation in aqueous solution-related ambient environments. Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy was used to probe the surface structural changes linked to potential dependent oxidation and reduction of copper in alkaline, neutral and acidic media. Experimental methodology, findings and implications are discussed. Results are also compared with evidence derived from previous experiments which confirm adsorbed oxygen on copper electrodes.

Surface oxidation of platinum-group transition metals in ambient gaseous environments: Role of electrochemical versus chemical pathways

Article Abstract:

The effects of water vapor on the temperature-dependent surface oxidation of Pt-group metals in ambient-pressure gaseous oxygen environment are analyzed by means of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Findings are believed to provide clear-cut evidence demonstrating the important role played by gaseous water in facilitating the O2-induced surface oxidation of Pt-group metals.

Field-dependent chemisorption of carbon monoxide on platinum-group (111) surfaces: relationships between binding energetics, geometries, and vibrational properties as assessed by density functional theory

Article Abstract:

The field-dependent frequency behavior of absorbate (V(sub M-CO)) and the intermolecular vibration of carbon monoxide are explored. These low frequency vibrational measurements when combined with density functional theory (DFT) produce a new avenue for electrosorption exploration.
